RBA Cash Rate Announcement April 2025

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) kept the cash rate on hold at 4.10 per cent at its latest meeting. With inflation trending lower, many are hoping another cash rate cut will be around the corner.

Read today’s official statement on the RBA’s website.

The latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed inflation has continued to ease in Australia.

The monthly consumer price index (CPI) figures showed headline inflation slowed to 2.4 per cent over the 12 months to February – well within the RBA’s target band and down from 2.5 per cent in January.

The latest inflation data has left many economists feeling optimistic about a second round of interest rate relief later in the year, potentially in May.

Meanwhile, homeowners still struggling with cost-of-living pressures may have found some relief in the Federal Government’s recent 2025-26 Budget announcement.

Broad cost-of-living measures included new tax cuts for Australian taxpayers, more energy bill relief, and initiatives to cut the cost of medicines and student debt, among other announcements.

In welcome news for first-home buyers, the Government also plans to expand the Help to Buy program to support Australians to buy homes with lower deposits and smaller mortgages.

Under the Help to Buy program, the Government will provide an equity contribution of up to 40 per cent to support eligible home buyers (around 40,000 Australians) to purchase a home with a lower deposit and a smaller mortgage.

Around $800 million will be allocated to lift the property price and income caps (raised from $90,000 to $100,000 for individuals, and from $120,000 to $160,000 for couples and single parents) to make the scheme more accessible.

In other news, this year’s budget also allocated $54 million towards the prefabricated and modular housing industry in a bid to boost home building.
